The end of the line for PA 978 North is at US 22/30 in Imperial.  This is also the site of the western split of 22/30.  PA 978 used to continue further north to Moon Township.  However, the route was truncated because of the growing land needs of the Pittsburgh International Airport.

From US 30 West, which just recently left its multiplex with US 22, a left turn puts you on PA 978 South.

The Southern Terminus of PA 978 is at PA 50 in Cecil.
