West End: Interstate 81 in Cumberland County

East End: Camp Hill

There is some speculation that PA 581 may become
Interstate 581. It has been a subject of debate within the ranks
of many road enthusiasts. However, PA 581 shields still remain.

The Western Terminus of PA 581 is at Interstate 81. For decades,
this interchange sat incomplete as PA 581 was unfinished to the south and
east of here. Below, a clasp shows the END 581 signs that are just
beyond the overhead signs in Jason's photo.

The clasp of the END PA 581 shield shows the adjacent mile marker, W 581
0 .5, meaning that this marker is posted along westbound PA 581 0.5 miles
from its western end. The white splotch between "W" and "0" is a PA 581
keystone shield. Major highways in the Harrisburg area have mile markers
of this style every tenth of a mile. (1)

PA 581 West splits off from Interstate 81.

The Eastern Terminus of PA 581 is at Interstate 83 in Camp Hill.
