PA 163

West End: Maryland State Line in Antrim Township; Franklin County
East End: State Line

PA 163 is a short highway, about three miles in length, that hugs the Maryland line its entire route.  I traveled this route in October of 2001nd very much enjoyed this short route.  Not only because of how it hugs the Mason-Dixon Line, but because of the constant, yet short, ups and downs the ride gives along the rolling farmland.  If you ever want to have a little bit of fun and have about 10 minutes to kill, your next time along Interstate 81 get off the Interstate at Exit 1, and hug the line on 163.  It will be well worth your time.

PA 163 runs due east-west its entire length except for the last or first 20-30 feet.  Heading West, it turns 90 degrees (above photo) and heads south and you immediately will come to the view shown in the photo below, the Maryland State Line.

This photo also gives you an excellent example of the rolling ride PA 163 is, and continues as MD 63.

This PA 163 East marker happens to stand in Maryland.  You can see the change in pavement and the concrete border pylon followed by the Welcome to Pennsylvania sign.  This photo clearly proves that PA 163 runs for about 20-30 feet north/south before running east/west.

A closer view of the concrete pylon.

The Eastern Terminus of PA 163 is at US 11 in the Village of State Line.  The actual terminus is located about 25 feet from the Maryland Line if not closer.

This view is from US 11 South no more than 500 feet from the Maryland State Line.  There is a definite change in pavement ahead, which is the change of state maintenance.
