Eastern Entrance

These two pictures feature the eastern entrance of US 6 into Ohio from Pennsylvania northeast of Richmond Center, and north of the Pyamatuning Reservoir.  As featured in the second photo, on the left side of US 6 West at the state line is a small reference marker, known commonly as a Little White Sign, or LWS. An LWS is placed on a route within the Pennsylvania State Highway system, in intervals of approximately 0.5 mile, as a means of reference to another road, boundary, or other feature. Interstate Highways and U.S. Routes are classified as state routes for the purposes of the LWS system. So, to denote the end of Pennsylvania's maintenance of US 6 at the Ohio State Line, this END SR LWS has been placed.  As for the atmosphere of the area surrounding US 6's crossing from Pennsylvania into Ohio, David notes, "This was one of the quietest places in the world early on a summer morning."
