Western Terminus |
|
The western terminus of US 22, common with the southern terminus of OH 3, is in downtown Cincinnati at the junction with US 27, US 42, US 52, and US 127. Dan describes the placement of the END signage as follows: "This is US 22 west / OH 3 south (9th St west) at
Elm
St. Elm St is US 42 north. Plum St, the next light, is US 27 south / US
42
south / US 52 east / US 127 south / OH 264 west (OH 264 west begins there;
unfortunately there is no signage). Central Ave, the third light, is US
27
north / US 52 west / US 127 north. US 22 west / OH 3 south ends at Central Ave.
This
is the only signage; there is none for any of the intersecting routes." |

These are the first reassurance markers for US 22 and OH 3. Note the erroneous US 3 shield; that should be an OH 3 shield. In describing the location of these markers, Dan notes: "The Central Ave / 5th St intersection
is
just behind. We are on Central Ave northbound, which is US 22 east / US
27
north / US 52 west / US 127 north / OH 3 north. US 22 east / OH 3 north begins just
behind, and these are the first reassurance markers. 5th St (where US 22 east / 3
north
begins) is OH 264 east (coming from the US 50 freeway eastbound). A
left
turn at the light ahead is OH 264 west, which merges into the US 50
freeway
westbound. This is the only US 22 / OH 3 signage at the intersection where
they
begin; there is other signage several blocks down where it turns onto
7th
St." |

Here, Dan is looking north on Central Avenue at 7th Street, 2 blocks north of the starting point for east US 22 / north OH 3. At this point, east US 22 / north OH 3 split from the multiplex of north US 27, west US 52, and north US 127. |

This is the JCT US 22 / OH 3 signage on south Plum Street (south US 27, south US 42, east US 52, south US 127, and west OH 264) at 7th Street. |

Eastern Entrance |
|
US 22 enters into Ohio from West Virginia via a relatively new six lane cable-stayed bridge that spans the Ohio River between Steubenville and Weirton, West Virginia. Here is the view of east US 22 as it approaches the main tower of the bridge. Upon emerging from the bridge, the right lane immediately exits onto south WV 2, a route which straddles the eastern bank of the Ohio River. |

This photo, which shows the West Virginia perspective of the cable-stayed bridge, was taken on the ramp from north WV 2 to west US 22, just before it merges in with US 22 at the eastern end of the bridge. |

|
This sign truss greets travelers on west US 22 upon entering into Ohio. When departing from the bridge, US 22 promptly enters into an interchange with OH 7 on a sweeping curve. |
