About OH 420 |
Southern Terminus |
The southern terminus of OH 420 is at a somewhat complex intersection with US 20 / US 23 in Lemoyne. No END signage is in place for OH 420
here. The two southbound lanes of OH 420 split in opposing directions at the intersection. The left lane heads toward US 20 East / US 23 South,
while the right lane leads to US 20 West / US 23 North. |
Here is the first OH 420 North reassurance marker, accompanied by a bevy of TO shields for I-80, I-90, and I-280. |
Signage on US 20 East / US 23 South on the approach to the start of OH 420 North suggests the importance of the short expressway, as
the JCT OH 420 marker is complemented by TO markers for I-80, I-90, and I-280. |
A similar array of signs appears on US 20 West / US 23 North as it nears the southern terminus of OH 420, except that instead of
TO I-80 and TO I-90 shields, there is a TO OHIO TURNPIKE marker alongside the JCT OH 420 and TO I-280 shields. |
This sign gantry stands on US 20 West / US 23 North as OH 420 splits off. Traffic using OH 420 North can keep moving, but
traffic continuing on US 20 West / US 23 North must stop and wait for OH 420 South to clear before moving on. |
Northern Terminus |
The northern terminus of OH 420 is at I-80 / I-90 (Exit 71), the Ohio Turnpike, north of Lemoyne. Upon crossing the Turnpike, OH 420
turns into I-280. |
The previous photo shows a gantry with a sign that denotes that OH 420 ends and I-280 begins in the northbound direction. A like sign truss
is in place in the southbound direction as OH 420 picks up where I-280 leaves off. The bridge right behind the gantry carries the Ohio Turnpike
over the transition between I-280 and OH 420. |
Just a few hundred feet south of the I-80 / I-90 interchange, OH 420 has a signalized intersection with Libbey Road, which serves the
truck stops that are located at the interchange. Just after Libbey Road is the first trailblazer for OH 420 South. |
One mile before the I-280 / OH 420 interchange on I-80 / I-90 West, there is this overhead signage in place. At the time this photo was shot,
the Ohio Turnpike Commission was in the midst of a transition from sequential exit numbers to mileage-based exit numbers. This is why two exit number
tabs are attached to the sign here. However, as of September 2002, all sequential exit number tabs were removed. |
