| I-70 makes its way into the Buckeye State
upon its departure from Indiana southwest of New Paris. The first photo
shows a standard guide sign marking the point of the Ohio State Line.
The second photo shows a unique landmark that stands 0.25 mile into the
Buckeye State: a blue arch that spans the width of I-70, featuring a newer
WELCOME TO OHIO eastbound. A sign thanking travelers for visiting Ohio
is mounted to the arch for westbound travelers. PHOTO # 1: Ben Prusia, July 16, 2003; PHOTO # 2: William Eby. |

| I-70's departure from the Buckeye State
is via a bridge that spans the Ohio River between Bridgeport and Wheeling,
West Virginia. In the first picture is the zero mile marker for West Virginia,
marking the exact location of the state line. The second shows a ground-level
view of the overhead WELCOME TO WEST VIRGINIA sign that greets motorists
heading east along I-70. I-70's journey through the Mountain State is
brief. After just 15 miles through the panhandle, I-70 abruptly exits
West Virginia and enters into Pennsylvania. PHOTO # 1: Ben Prusia, July 16, 2003; PHOTO # 2: Chris Beach, March 9, 2003. |
