Interstate 470 |
Western Entrance |
I-470, which provides an alternate to its parent route around Wheeling, West Virginia, has its western terminus at a partial interchange with I-70 (Exit 219) east of St. Clairsville. Exit 1 off of I-470 is actually
an elongated off-ramp to the Ohio Valley Mall interchange off of I-70 (Exit 218). The two through lanes of I-470 West default onto I-70 West. |
Here is the physical end of I-470, as it merges into I-70 West. There is no END signage for I-470 at this terminus. |
Going east from the Ohio Valley Mall interchange, I-70 East has three lanes. The right and center lanes provide
access to I-470 East, while I-70 East maintains the left and center lanes. |
Eastern Entrance |
I-470 departs Ohio as it crosses the Ohio River into West Virginia via the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge at Bridgeport. Midway across the bridge is a gantry
denoting that the first exit into West Virginia is for US 250 and WV 2. |
An overhead WELCOME TO WEST VIRGINIA sign greets I-470 East motorists on the downslope into the Mountain State. |
The same sign gantry from the midpoint of the bridge depicted in the first photo also shows that the first exit for I-470 West into the Buckeye State is for OH 7. |
The OHIO WELCOMES YOU sign for I-470 West is attached to a sign truss located at the western end of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge. OH 7 actually passes underneath the bridge, so the
upcoming trumpet interchange is for a connector to OH 7. |
