US 74
US 74 is one of three mountains to coast US Highways
in North Carolina. US 64 and 70 are the others. The highway
is the key to the Asheville-Charlotte-Wilmington corridor. It also
links small Southern Foothills and Piedmont towns to all three cities.
The highway is nearly four lanes throughout the state, and many parts of
the highway's routing is being upgraded to a freeway. There are numerous
bannered (Alternate and Business) routes for US 74 throughout the state.
If you are able to get a photo of any of these ends, please
e-mail me.
National Eastern End: Wrightsville Beach
(Doug Kerr)
The Eastern Terminus of US 74 is at the north end of Wrightsville Beach.
It has one of the more unique terminus of any US Highway. US 74 ends
at a cul-de-sac facing Mason Inlet. There is not an 'END' sign present.
Also, the Eastern Terminus of US 76 is at the Southern
tip of the island.
