US 70
US Highway 70 is the second longest US route in North
Carolina. It enters the state from Tennessee a few miles west of
Hot Springs in Madison County. It cuts through the heart of Carolina
as it runs from the mountains, to the foothills, through the Piedmont,
to the Coastal Plain before coming to an end in tiny Atlantic. There
are numerous Business Routes and Bypasses and Truck Routes and even an
Alternate along the highway's run. It even has four different versions
of the designation in Johnston County, confusing enough that I'm working
on a stand alone page just for that! But without anymore hype, the

National Eastern Terminus: Atlantic
(Adam Prince)
US 70 ends its Arizona to North Carolina in the tiny coastal village of
Atlantic. The roadway continues for an additional quarter of a mile
to a ferry dock that runs to Portsmouth Island.
Alternate US 70: Pine Level to Smithfield
(Adam Froehlig)
Part of the 4 US 70's of Johnston County. US 70A runs from Princeton
through Pine Level to this intersection with US 70, just east of I-95,
in Smithfield. Until the early 90's, US 70A continued further west
to beyond Wilson's Mills.
