US 29

US Route 29 is one of the most important of North Carolina's US Highways.  A minimal four lane divided highway for almost its entire route, US 29 enters the state from Virginia runs through the Piedmont, through furniture and textile country, the heart of Charlotte, and exits into South Carolina under the watchful eye of nearby Kings Mountain.  US 29 currently has one business route remaining in Reidsville.  Business routes in Lexington, Thomasville and Charlotte once also existed.  At one time there were also US 29 Alternates from Greensboro to High Point and from China Grove to Concord.  If you have photos or information you'd like to share or include about US 29, please e-mail me.

Business US 29 Northern Terminus: Ruffin

(Adam Prince)

The Northern Terminus of US 29 Business is at US 29 in Ruffin.  The 'END' sign is located beyond the diamond interchange with US 29.  Mayfield Road continues in the distance.  If you wish to continue to follow the original US 29 to the Virginia State line, you will bear right onto Old US 29 (Mayflower Road) in Ruffin about 1/3 of a mile before the US 29 interchange.  The original US 29 closely follows the Southern Railroad line.

The 'BEGIN' Business US 29 sign appears before the interchange with US 29 which can be made out in the distance.
