US 17
US 17 is North Carolina's Coastal Highway. Running from Virginia
and the Dismal Swamp to South Carolina and the entrance to the Grand Strand,
US 17 parallels the Atlantic for its entire journey through our state.
Over time, US 17 has been upgraded from a sleep two lane road to a four
lane highway with numerous bypasses. There are numerous bannered
versions of US 17 and in some cases there are four different versions of
US 17 in one city.
Truck Business US 17 Ends: Elizabeth City
One of the oddest highway designation's within the state -- and possibly
within the country -- is Truck Business US 17 in Elizabeth City.
Truck Business US 17 runs entirely on US 158 and serves as a Truck Bypass
of downtown Elizabeth City.
