US 13

US 13 is the youngest of the US Highways within North Carolina.  Born in 1951, US 13 is largely a quiet north-south route through Eastern North Carolina.  If you have photo of the bannered route ends or the Virginia/North Carolina state line crossing of US 13, please e-mail me.

National Southern Terminus: Eastover

For decades, the southern terminus of US 13 was at a quiet interchange with Interstate 95 near Fayetteville.

At the time (Summer 2000), there was not an 'END' sign present.  US 13 became a local secondary road that ended at US 301 less than a mile later.

US 13 wasn't even acknowledged on US 301.  The secondary route was instantly and with little fanfare transformed into US 13 at I-95.

Today, as a result of the construction of Interstate 295, US 13's national southern terminus is a bit more interesting.  The former diamond interchange has now been transformed into a three level interchange with flyover ramps.  Now with an 'END' sign at the terminus, the roadway that carries US 13 no longer turns into a state secondary road, but 'Future' Interstate 295.

The flyover ramp above the highway carries traffic from I-295 to I-95 North.

From the I-95 South off-ramp, signage for the beginning of US 13 North and Future I-295.  The new interchange caused for a new connector route from US 13 to US 301.
