US 1

The Fall Line Route more commonly known as United States Highway One.  In North Carolina, US 1 runs along the eastern edge of the Piedmont and into the Sandhills.  Over the past 80 years, US 1 has gone from a two lane road that connected most os the many towns along the Fall Line to the State Capital in Raleigh and points north and south to almost a completely four lane (or more) highway racing through Tobacco Road.  There are a few bannered remnants of the old route signed today.  Business Routes in Henderson and Sanford along with Alternate Routes in Franklinton and Wake Forest to Youngsville keep US 1 tied to the small towns and cities that this highway was once a Main Street through.

In a chute of trees just north of Interstate 85 is the Northern Terminus of US 1 in the Tar Heel State.

Less than a mile south of the VA State line is I-85 and the Northern Terminus of US 401.

North Carolina Southern Terminus: NC/SC Line south of Everetts Mill, NC

Just like the Northern State Line crossing, the Southern NC Terminus of US 1 is a sleepy two lane crossing which is a contrast of US 1 throughout most of the state.  US 1 from Rockingham to the South Carolina State Line is part of the I-73 Corridor.
