The Western Terminus of NC 98 is at US 15/501 Business in Downtown Durham as shown in this photo from Jimmy Storey. NC 98 is multiplexed with US 70 Business for its final few miles. West Business 70 continues straight. The intersecting street in this photo is US 15/501 Business South. This is part of the confusing Downtown Loop involving Business US 15/, 70 and 501. I drove this on June 30, 2001, and I ended up going around the loop once. The signage for US 70 Business West is very poorly marked. You have to hunt for the shield to leave the loop.
Because of the odd nature of the loop, the first sign for NC 98 is about a block to the South. As you can see from this photo Jimmy also sent in, NC 98 exits/enters the Durham Loop on two one-way streets. This begin also intersects US 15/501 Business South.
Jimmy also took a photo of the Eastern Terminus of NC 98 is at US 64A and NC 231 near Spring Hope. This is also the Northern Terminus of NC 231. NC 98 must be in higher regard in the minds of NCDOT, as it has received an 'END' sign. NC 231 does not.
