NC 90

West End: Edgemont
East End: Statesville
The Western Terminus of NC 90 is in the remote Caldwell County town of Edgemont.  The western terminus may be the most isolated part of the state highway system.  NC 90's final 8.1 miles are unpaved.  It is not marked between that point and Edgemont except for one sign in Mortimer at Brown Mountain Road.

This is a photo of the last NC 90 West shield before the western terminus.  This is a little over eight miles from Edgemont.  The unpaved part of NC 90 begins just beyond the curve and bridge in the photo.

In Mortimer sits the only NC 90 sign to be found along the unpaved portion.  That is actually a double headed arrow; however, the right half was shot out.  This is at Brown Mountain Road.

This is the estimated location of the western terminus of NC 90.  Edgemont Road continues straight ahead towards US 221.  To the right is Edgemont Church Road.

This is looking at the beginning of NC 90 from Edgemont Road.  The road to the left is Forest Road 981 which becomes Roseboro Road.  There is a sign here that says that Roseboro Road leads to US 221.  It doesn't exactly lead to the road rather to an old alignment of US 221 in Linville.  Conversely, there is no mention of US 221 on the last miles of NC 90.

Finally, this is a view of the terminus from Edgemont Church Road.  To the left begins/ends NC 90.  Straight ahead is Roseboro Road.  To the bottom right is Edgemont Road.

The Eastern Terminus of NC 90 is at US 21/64 in Statesville.  Here, I was looking South on US 21 when taking this photo.

I also took a photo of the first West NC 90 shield.  An 'END' sign is not present at the eastern terminus.
