NC 690 is one of North Carolina's newest state highways.
It was first signed in late 1999/early 2000 when Manchester Rd. (a commonly
used shortcut through Pope AFB and Ft. Bragg) was closed for base use.
NC 690 is also known as Vass Rd. Stories go that NC 690 signs just
appeared out of nowhere one day.

The Eastern Terminus of NC 690 is in Manchester/Spring Lake at NC
24/87. These large shields were placed
after a widening project for NC 24/87 from Sanford to Spring Lake was completed.

The above two photos come from NC 690's Western Terminus in Vass at US
1. This is an Begin/End Fan's dream for not only does it have both
a "BEGIN" & "END" banner, but it also has the directional banners as
well.
