The Western Terminus of NC 42 is an interchange with Future I-73/74 and
US 220 in Asheboro. Later this decade, the configuration of this
interchange, an interior diamond with left exits on the freeway, will change
as improvements will be made to it. There is no 'END' sign present.

The Eastern Terminus of NC 42 is at NC 45 in Colerain.
There is an 'END' sign present at this terminus. The 'END' sign is
the only one to my knowledge to look like that. I actually like it.
