NC 39

North End: VA State Line near Townsville

South End: Selma

(Dave Filpus)
The Northern Terminus of NC 39 is at the Virginia State line a few miles
north of Townsville. There is not an 'END' sign at this state line
crossing.
(Adam Prince)
Once crossing into Virginia, NC 39 continues as Virginia Secondary Route
719 (Rock Church Rd.). Something I rarely see at any North Carolina
state line crossings, a stone or concrete pylon marking the border.
(Adam Prince)
Finally just after crossing the state line, the first South NC 39 shield
appears.
(Jimmy Storey)
The Southern Terminus of NC 39 is at US 70 in Selma. NC 39's south
end is slightly different and interesting. The route number is multiplexed
with NC 96 and US 301 from this point until it splits
off about three miles further north. For a time in the 1990's, NC
39 would head East on US 70 before terminating at US 70A. (1)
