NC 344 is one of the state's newest signed highways.
Signs first appeared in April of 2006. NC 344 is signed on Halstead
Blvd. in Elizabeth City before running on what was formerly NC 34 to its
southern terminus at Wade Point.

The Northern Terminus of NC 344 is at the US 17 Bypass on the outskirts
of Elizabeth City. There is not an 'END' sign at the terminus which
is a diamond interchange with the US 17 freeway. Above is a photo
of the first South NC 344 shield.
The Southern Terminus of NC 344 is the former south end of NC
