The Eastern Terminus of NC 24 is in Morehead City at US 70.
(Chris Curley)
In March of 2003, NC 24 was rerouted onto Harris Blvd. from NC 27 (Albemarle
Rd.) to I-77 in North Charlotte. This extension moved the route on
to the multi-laned circumferential highway running southeast to northwest
through the University area and to the south of Huntersville. Of
course, the new extension gave the state an excellent opportunity to place
an 'END' sign at the new terminus, and NCDOT did follow through.
(Chris Patriarca)
Not only did the state put an 'END' banner up, they also included a 'BEGIN'
NC 24 sign installation as well.
Historical Western Terminus: Charlotte
(Chris Curley)
For many years, NC 24 ended at US 74 and NC 27 east
of downtown Charlotte. There was not an 'END' sign present when Chris took
this photo in 2001. This intersection will be greatly changed in
the next few years as the Independence Freeway that carries US 74 and NC
27 will be extended to this point, and later beyond here, resulting in
an interchange being placed here. The car dealership in the background
of the photo was torn down by February 2002.
