A small North Carolina State Line sign greets you at the Northern Terminus
of NC 226 is at the Tennessee State Line north of Buladean.

Here is a photo of the first NC 226 South sign located just past the terminus.
The larger, more commonly seen, Welcome to North Carolina sign stands just
beyond it. The elevation here is over 3000 feet.

The Southern Terminus of NC 226 is at US 29 in Grover. NC 226 misses
entering South Carolina by less than a mile. I had an interesting
incident when I visited this end. Just before I took this photo,
I was stopped as part of a random license check just across the railroad
tracks in the distance. I had no troubles with the stop. But
it was my first experience, after living over 16 months in NC, of this
kind. I guess that's 'Southern Justice'?

The first NC 226 shield gives no indication that you are headed North.

This view from US 29 South shows you how close NC 226 comes to the South
Carolina state line, about 1000 feet.
