NC 162, which is the state highway designation for
the Hope Mill Bypass, was first signed in May 2007. It is one of
the rare state routes to end at a secondary route - eastern terminus at
Legion Road in Hope Mills.
NC 162's Western Terminus will be at US 401 in Fayetteville.
In early June 2007, NC 162 had not opened to US 401. The western
terminus was barricaded off at US 401.

NC 162's designation currently ends at the intersection of Legion Road
and Elk Drive in Hope Mills. It is quite possible that in the future
NC 162 will continue on what is currently Elk Drive and end at Business
I-95/US 301.

At NC 162's Eastern Terminus at Legion Road, an 'END' NC 162 shield is
present.
(Adam Prince)
There's also a 'BEGIN' NC 162 shield at the start of the Hope Mills Bypass.
