| Southern Split |
 The southern split of US 49 into US 49E and US 49W is at an interchange in Yazoo City. The interchange also serves as the northern terminus of the Redwood to Yazoo City section of MS 3. This is the sign along US 49 1/2 mile south of the interchange. As part of the realignment of US 49W, this trumpet interchange was built right next to an existing rail line, requiring the unique use of bridges to get the interchange in. Notice that the US 49W SB to US 49 SB ramp joins in between the NB and SB lanes of US 49. Photo taken by Robert Lee on 1/31/2005.  This is the first sign for US 49E NB. | Northern Split |
 The northern split of US 49 into US 49E and US 49W is at Tutwiler. The junction consist of a "Y" intersection with a connector road. In the middle of the three roads is a closed rest area.
