Maintenance of MS 553 switches from MDOT to the town of Fayette on Harrison St just west of the Main St (Old US 61) intersection. This photo looks southbound on MS 553. MS 553 is locally maintained along the section of Main St that it was formerly co-signed with then-US 61. The route is thoroughly marked as "To MS 553" along the locally-maintained portion. Northern Terminus

I'm not exactly sure what to make of this section of MS 553.
Northern Terminus
Harriston Road continues north from the above picture, changing into Old Highway 61 (a dirt road) and coming out at US 61 about 3 miles north of Fayette. As part of the US 61 4-laning project, signs were placed designating Old Highway 61 as MS 553.
