About US 131 |
| US 131 has nearly its entire length within
the Wolverine State, excepting a small stretch of less than a mile in Indiana.
Generally, US 131 is never more than 50 miles to the east of its parent
route, US 31. US 131 enters into Michigan as a two-lane route up through
its southern junction with M-60. At that point, it turns into a four-lane
divided highway, then becomes a full-fledged freeway just south of Kalamazoo.
The freeway stretch passes by Grand Rapids, Big Rapids, and now Cadillac
and Manton, before reverting back into a two-lane highway north of Manton,
and continuing as such up through its northern terminus. |

| US 131's jaunt into the Hoosier State is
short-lived. Just 0.75 mile beyond the Michigan State Line, US 131 comes
to an end at the Indiana Toll Road (I-80/I-90,
Exit 107). Upon reaching the interchange, US 131 turns into IN
13. The transition is marked by an END US 131 shield, accompanied by
the first IN 13 South trailblazer to its left. PHOTO # 1: Barry Camp, April 26, 2003. |
