U.S. Route 10

Western Entrance: Via Lake Michigan Car Ferry from Wisconsin, Ludington | Length: 140.7 miles | Eastern Terminus: I-75 / US 23 (Exit 162B), Bay City

Western Entrance

US 10 enters into Michigan in a unique way: via a car ferry that crosses Lake Michigan between Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and Ludington.  US 10 is one of only two US routes that uses a car ferry.  (The other is US 9 across Delaware Bay between Lewes, Delaware, and North Cape May, New Jersey.)  Interestingly, although west US 10 picks up again at Manitowoc, MDOT has nonetheless installed a US 10 ENDS shield at the Ludington ferry docks.  Here, Brian presents two perspectives of the US 10 ENDS sign.  The first features the ferry boat which takes US 10 traffic across Lake Michigan to Wisconsin.  The second showcases a WELCOME TO MICHIGAN sign located across the street from the US 10 ENDS marker.

Eastern Terminus
The eastern terminus of US 10 is at a full cloverleaf interchange with I-75 / US 23 just west of Bay City.  As east US 10 comes to an end, east M-25 begins.  The overpass behind the gantry carries 3 Mile Road over US 10.

Here is a view of the start of west US 10, as west M-25 terminates.  While there are a pair of US 10 ENDS shields present in the eastbound direction, there are no M-25 ENDS markers in place in the westbound direction.
