| US 31 departs Michigan and enters
into Indiana approximately 5 miles southwest of Niles. The
southernmost 24 miles of US 31 in Michigan is along a four-lane
freeway known as the Saint Joseph Valley Pkwy. The parkway, which is
comprised of US 31 and US 20, forms a freeway by-pass around Niles in
Michigan, and South Bend, Mishawaka, and Elkhart in Indiana. This is
the signage present as US 31 South crosses from the Wolverine State
into the Hoosier State. Note that the "Welcome to Indiana" sign is

| Meanwhile, here is the "Welcome to
Michigan" sign that greets motorists as they head into Michigan from
Indiana on US 31 North. The first US 31 reassurance marker in the
northbound direction into the Wolverine State can be seen here, as

Northern Terminus |

| US 31's Northern Terminus is at a
partial interchange with I-75 (Exit 336), approximately 2 miles south of
Mackinaw City, and 3 miles south of the Mackinac Bridge. US 31
North defaults onto I-75 North, while access to US 31 South is only
possible from I-75 South at this interchange. These two photos
show US 31 as it closes in on its Northern Terminus. The first
picture shows a then (as of 2006) newly-erected Clearview JUNCTION I-75
guide sign along US 31 North immediately before the bridge that takes it
over I-75. The second picture features the US 31 ENDS assembly in
