Business U.S. 131 - Cadillac

Southern Terminus: US 131/M-55, S of Cadillac, Wexford County.
Northern Terminus: US 131, NE of Cadillac, Wexford County.

Following the completion of the US 131 by-pass around Cadillac in 2001, a new BUS US 131 designation came into being.  Beginning at a diamond interchange with US 131/M-55 south of town, BUS US 131 follows the former route of US 131 through downtown Cadillac, and then northward up to Boon Rd.  At that point, BUS US 131 turns east onto Boon Rd., and follows that road back to the US 131 freeway northeast of Cadillac.

Southern Terminus


     
The Southern Terminus of BUS US 131 is at US 131/M-55 (Exit 177) south of Cadillac, at the approximate location of where the northern end of the US 131 freeway was until the opening of the Cadillac By-Pass in 2001.  These three photos show the progression of signs along BUS US 131 leading up to the point where it comes to an end.  The first picture shows a guide sign stating that the next right turn puts motorists on the ramp to US 131 South/M-55 West, which meet M-115 at the next interchange to the south.  Note that the M-55 and M-115 shields on this guide sign each have an "M" in them, which is not typical for state route shields on guide signs in Michigan.  The second picture shows the signage present at the on-ramp to US 131 South/M-55 West.  Not only is there the typical freeway entrance guide sign, but there is also an interesting second guide sign right behind the turnoff that says, "US 131 South Freeway".  The third picture shows the BUS US 131 ENDS assembly present just after the interchange.  In addition to a thinner-than-normal ENDS plate beneath the BUS US 131 marker, there is also a small "Local Traffic Only" sign, referring to No. 43 Rd., which is the continuation for BUS US 131 beyond the interchange.

Northern Terminus


 
The Northern Terminus of BUS US 131 is at the Boon Rd. interchange off of US 131 (Exit 183), a four-ramp parclo located northeast of Cadillac.
