| The Western Terminus of US 12 within
the State of Michigan is at the Indiana State Line southwest of New
Buffalo. This is the closest state highway crossing of the
border between Michigan and Indiana to Lake Michigan. For most
of its jaunt through the Hoosier State, US 12 will travel near the
Lake Michigan shore line, passing through Michigan City and Gary on
its way into the Chicago vicinity. Photo # 1 features an
overview of US 12 as it crosses into Indiana, with the "Welcome to
Indiana" sign appearing in the distance. Photo # 2 shows the
first US 12 West shield, which is accompanied by two markers
underneath it. The first marker identifies US 12 as being a part
of the
Lake
Michigan Circle Tour, and the second marker identifies US 12 as
the Iron Brigade Memorial Highway, a designation US 12 carries through
Indiana all the way to the Illinois State Line. PHOTOS # 1 - 2: Bob Nightingale, 3/12/2006. |
