In its earlier days, M-82 continued north and west to end at US 31,
first in Hart, then in Shelby, and finally in New Era. In 1969, M-20 was re-routed over the westernmost stretch of M-82 between
New Era and Hesperia. At that time, M-82 was truncated to its junction with M-20 in Hesperia, shown in these two photos, which also became the northern terminus of the newly designated M-120. In 1978, the multiplex of M-82 and M-120 was
eliminated with the truncating of M-82 back to where it meets M-120 west of Fremont. The current northern endpoint of M-120 remains at M-20 in Hesperia. (PHOTOS # 1 - 2: Brian Reynolds | May 17, 2002) |

Eastern Terminus |
| M-82's eastern terminus is at a diamond interchange with US 131 / M-46 (Exit 118) west of Howard City. The
terminus assembly for M-82 at this endpoint is non-standard for Michigan, as the ENDS plate has been placed above the route marker instead of beneath it. (PHOTO # 1: Brian Reynolds | May 17, 2002) |
