Michigan Route 179 |

About M-179 |
| Commissioned in 1999, M-179 came about as a result of MDOT's Rationalization initiative. (For more information on this short-lived program, please check out Chris Bessert's Rationalization page.) Designated by MDOT as a Recreational Heritage Route for its entirel length, M-179 follows the former stretch of County Designated Highway A-42 east of US 131. A-42 west of US 131 is still in place. |

Western Terminus |
| M-179's western terminus is at the US 131 freeway (Exit 61) near Bradley. County Designated Highway A-42, which picks up where M-179 leaves
off, turns left immediately after the US 131 South on-ramp onto a road which parallels the freeway for about a mile before turning west toward Hopkins. (PHOTO # 1: Barry Camp | April 25, 2003) |

Eastern Terminus |
| The eastern terminus of M-179 is at M-43 west of Hastings, and just 0.25 mile west of the western junction between M-43 and
M-37. Barry notes that not only is there no M-179 ENDS signage in place here, but there are no M-43 shields
facing M-179, either! Shown here is the first M-179 West reassurance marker. (PHOTO # 1: Barry Camp | March 4, 2003) |
| As this signage on M-43 West at its junction with M-179 indicates, M-43 curves to the left while M-179 goes straight ahead. (PHOTO # 2: Barry Camp | March 4, 2003) |
