M-51

LENGTH: 40.3 miles

SOUTHERN TERMINUS: Indiana state line, 4 miles south of Niles; continues as IN-933

This is the point where M-51 hits the state line and becomes IN-933. There is no M-51 ENDS assembly present here. The University of Notre Dame campus, as well as downtown South Bend, are less than 5 miles beyond this point. Until 1998, this route was, in fact, US-33. At that time, US-33 was truncated back to the US-20 freeway southeast of Elkhart, IN, so consequently, M-51 was extended from downtown Niles to the state line, and IN-933 was designated.

The next sign after the JCT I-94 sign is the M-51 ENDS signage that is shown here, just before the interchange.
