M-102
LENGTH: 20.8 miles
WESTERN TERMINUS: M-5, Farmington Hills

As M-102 arrives at its western endpoint, this guide sign for M-5 dwells overhead. There are two through lanes for westbound 8 Mile Road (which continues straight ahead beyond this point) and two right turn lanes for westbound M-5. Westbound M-5 becomes a freeway about a mile northwest of this intersection, which ultimately meets up with I-96, as well as I-275 and I-696. M-102 took over for M-5 along Grand River Avenue from here up to I-96 until 1994, when M-5 was routed over M-102 and onto the new "Haggerty Connector" north of the I-96 / I-275 / I-696 mega interchange, and M-102 was truncated to here.

The M-102 ENDS sign is shown here, located just beyond the M-5 guide sign from the previous photo. Note that in the roadway here, there is a split between the through lanes for 8 Mile Road and the right turn lanes for M-5.

Meanwhile, in the other direction, this is the first eastbound M-102 trailblazer.

Eastbound on M-5, approaching the M-102 intersection, is where this JCT M-102 sign is located. Note the guide sign for M-102 on the left side of the roadway: while both roads are divided highways at this intersection, left turns are permitted from both directions of M-5. However, for 8 Mile Road traffic in either direction, a "Michigan left" maneuver is required to make a left onto M-5.

On westbound M-5 approaching the intersection, this M-5 and M-102 directional signage can be seen.
EASTERN TERMINUS: I-94 @ Exit #225, Harper Woods

Here is the M-102 ENDS and complementary I-94 signage at the east end of M-102 in Harper Woods. At the time this picture was taken, there was a major reconstruction project going on along I-94, which included the rehabilitation of the dual M-102 bridges over I-94. This is the reason for all the barrels and barricades here, which blocked off the rightmost two lanes. If you look really close in the background, you can just barely see another M-102 ENDS assembly beyond this one on the left side of the roadway.
