Michigan Route 45

M-46 >

Western Terminus: US 31, S of Grand Haven, Ottawa County.
Eastern Terminus: I-196, Grand Rapids, Kent County.

Western Terminus

The Western Terminus of M-45 is at US 31, along the four-lane divided stretch of the U.S. highway between Holland and Grand Haven.  Note that right arrow plates appear beneath both the US 31 South and US 31 North shields on the M-45 ENDS assembly.  All traffic from M-45 West bound for US 31 must turn onto US 31 North, as a Michigan Left Turn is required to access US 31 South from M-45 West.

This is the first M-45 East reassurance marker, which is accompanied by an Emergency US 31 North "uni-sign".  Emergency US 31 shields appear along M-45, 68th Ave. and I-96 to provide motorists an alternate route for when the drawbridge that carries US 31 over the Grand River is up.

Eastern Terminus

The Eastern Terminus of M-45 is at I-196 (Exit 75) in the western end of Grand Rapids.  Since this assembly was photographed, the ENDS plate beneath the M-45 shield has been replaced with an up arrow, indicating that M-45 continues beyond I-196.  Fulton Street to the east of this interchange is still under the jurisdiction of M.D.O.T., but is now an unsigned state highway. Additionally, the guide sign on the I-196 East overpass in the background notes M-45 as heading east onto Fulton Street.  That sign is still there.  For all intents and purposes, however, I-196 is considered the Eastern Terminus of M-45.
