Michigan Route 294

M-553 >

Southern Terminus: I-94 (Exit 100), E of Battle Creek, Calhoun County.
Northern Terminus: M-96, E of Battle Creek, Calhoun County.

M-294 was designated in 1998, when Calhoun County transferred the jurisdiction of portions of Beadle Lake Rd. and Main St. between I-94 and M-96 (Columbia Ave.) in Emmett Township southeast of downtown Battle Creek to M.D.O.T.  M-294 shields did not appear along the route, however, until 2001.

Southern Terminus

The Southern Terminus of M-294 is at a diamond interchange with I-94 (Exit 100) east of Battle Creek.  Note the placement of the ENDS plate above the M-294 shield, as opposed to the standard position of beneath the shield.

Northern Terminus

Just 1.5 miles north of its Southern Terminus, M-294 arrives at its Northern Terminus at M-96 (Columbia Ave.) near the eastern city limits of Battle Creek.  The stretch of M-96 where M-294 comes into play is a part of Emergency I-94, which is designated from the Indiana State Line along US 12 near New Buffalo all the way to the Old US 12 interchange off of I-94 west of Chelsea to provide an alternate in the event heavy lake-effect snow or an accident closes I-94.
