Michigan Route 179

M-183 >

Western Terminus: US 131 (Exit 61), Bradley, Allegan County.
Eastern Terminus: M-43, W of Hastings, Barry County.

Commissioned in 1999, M-179 came about as a result of M.D.O.T.'s short-lived Rationalization initiative.  Designated by M.D.O.T. as a Recreational Heritage Route for its entire length, M-179 follows the former stretch of County Designated Highway A-42 east of US 131.  A-42 west of US 131 is still in place.

Western Terminus

M-179's Western Terminus is at the US 131 freeway (Exit 61) in Bradley.  A-42, which picks up where M-179 leaves off, turns left immediately after the US 131 South on-ramp onto a road which parallels the freeway for about a mile before turning west toward Hopkins.

Eastern Terminus

The Eastern Terminus of M-179 is at M-43 west of Hastings.  The first picture shows the M-179 ENDS shield assembly present just before the M-43 intersection, while the second picture shows a TO M-37 trailblazer, M-43 shield and destination sign that are located at the back of the terminal intersection.  M-179 meets M-43 just 0.25 mile west of the western junction of M-43 and M-37.
