Southern Terminus |

The southern terminus of I-196 is
at Exit 34 off of I-94, northeast of the Benton Harbor - Saint Joseph
area in northeastern Berrien County.
US 31, which
multiplexes with I-196 for its southernmost 44 miles, is routed onto
west I-94 between here and Benton Harbor. With the coming of the
new US 31 freeway between Berrien Springs and I-94 in the next several
years, one possibility is that the new freeway may directly link into
this interchange. However, there are a few different alternatives
under review at this time, so it remains to be seen which path the new
