Southern Terminus |

The southern terminus of I-194 is at a cloverleaf
interchange with I-94 (Exit 98) in the southern part of Battle Creek. M-66
multiplexes with I-194 for its entire length of nearly 4 miles.
This photo shows the first guide sign mentioning the upcoming I-94
interchange on south I-194 / M-66, 1.25 mile away. (PHOTO # 1: Stephen Summers | June 2, 2001) |

An I-194 ENDS shield is in
place on south I-194 approximately 0.25 mile before it comes to an
end. (PHOTO # 2: Don Hargraves | November 2002) |

Here is the sign gantry
present on south I-194 / M-66 at the I-94 interchange. M-66
continues south from here to Sturgis and the Indiana State Line, where
it turns into IN 9. (PHOTO # 3: Don Hargraves | November 2002) |

The first reassurance marker for north I-194 is
accompanied by both a north M-66 shield and a guide sign identifying the
freeway as the Sojourner Truth Downtown Parkway. This guide sign
accompanies the I-194 and M-66 reassurance markers twice along the
length of I-194 in each direction: once with the initial I-194 marker,
and again right after the
M-96 interchange
(Exit 2). (PHOTO # 4: Stephen Summers | June 2, 2001) |

the beginning of north I-194 as seen from north M-66 entering into the
I-94 interchange. (PHOTO # 5: Don Hargraves | November 2002) |

In front of the Capital Avenue overpass is the
first mention of the upcoming I-194 / M-66 interchange on east I-94,
0.75 mile from here. (PHOTO # 6: Don Hargraves | November 2002) |

At the exit ramp to south
M-66 is this sign gantry on east I-94. Because this is a
cloverleaf interchange, traffic looking to head north on I-194 / M-66
will need to use the second ramp. (PHOTO # 7: Don Hargraves | November 2002) |

Preceding the I-194 / M-66
overpasses is the overhead exit signage for north I-194 / M-66 on east
I-94. The two four-span steel I-beam bridges which now carry I-194
/ M-66 over I-94 were constructed in 1999, replacing a pair of four-span
concrete arch bridges which were built in 1960 when I-194 was first
opened. (PHOTO # 8: Don Hargraves | November 2002) |

The first guide sign for the I-194 / M-66 exit on
west I-94 is located 0.75 mile from the interchange, and may seem a bit
misleading, given the placement of the NORTH text next to the M-66
shield. As is the case with the first guide sign advertising the
I-194 / M-66 interchange on east I-94, the one in the westbound
direction should omit the directional reference. (PHOTO # 9: Don Hargraves | November 2002) |

There is not one, but rather two guide signs on
west I-94 pointing to the exit ramp for north I-194 / M-66. Here
is the first one, a stand-alone sign which precedes the beginning of the
deceleration lane. (PHOTO # 10: Don Hargraves | November 2002) |

The second exit sign for north I-194 / M-66 on
west I-94 is attached to the sign bridge in place at the divergence of
the exit ramp. (PHOTO # 11: Don Hargraves | November 2002) |

Beckley Road intersects M-66 less than 0.5 mile
south of the I-94 interchange. M-66 is a divided highway through
this intersection, and traffic wishing to make a left would need to make
a "Michigan Left". (For more information on Michigan Lefts, please
visit Chris Bessert's
Michigan Left page.) This sequence of four photos shows the
signage present through the process of a Michigan Left from east Beckley
Road onto north I-194 / M-66. Just south of the Beckley Road
intersection, M-66 narrows from a four-lane divided highway into a
two-lane rural highway. (PHOTOS # 12 - 15: Don Hargraves | November 2002) |

Northern Terminus |

I-194's northern endpoint is
in downtown Battle Creek, at BL I-94. BL I-94 runs concurrently
with I-194 and M-66 for 0.5 mile. This is the last sign gantry
along north I-194. A left turn at the first intersection will lead
to Kellogg Arena, while a left at the second intersection provides
access to downtown Battle Creek and Cereal City U.S.A. Battle
Creek is the home of the Kellogg Cereal Company. Meanwhile, the
right lane of north I-194 / M-66 / BL I-94 becomes exit only for the
continuation of east BL I-94. (PHOTO # 1: Don Hargraves | November 2002) |

The I-194 ENDS sign for
north I-194 stands just in front of the signalized intersection with BL
I-94 (Michigan Avenue). From here, M-66 continues north toward Nashville
and Ionia. (PHOTO # 2: Don Hargraves | November 2002) |
