Michigan Connector Route 13

Southern Terminus I-75 / US 23 (Exit 164), 2 miles northwest of Bay City | Length: 2.5 miles | Northern Terminus: M-13, Kawkawlin

Notes

CONN M-13 is so named because it serves as a link between M-13 at Kawkawlin and I-75 / US 23 northwest of Bay City.  When this 2.5 mile long freeway opened in 1960, it carried the US 23 designation.  However, with the completion of the future I-75 freeway from Bay City to Standish in 1968, US 23 was re-routed onto that highway, the CONN M-13 designation came into existence along what then became a freeway spur from US 23 (future I-75) to M-13, and M-13 was extended from Kawkawlin up to Standish.

Southern Terminus

The southern end of CONN M-13 is at Exit 164 off of I-75 / US 23, a partial interchange which permits access from south CONN M-13 to south I-75 / US 23 and from north I-75 / US 23 to north CONN M-13 only.  To go from south I-75 / US 23 to north CONN M-13 or from south CONN M-13 to north I-75 / US 23, one must use Wilder Road.    Presented here is the signage leading up to the CONN M-13 exit along north I-75 / US 23.  On these signs, however, the route is marked at TO M-13.

As soon as north CONN M-13 diverges from north I-75 / US 23, there is a CONNECTOR M-13 shield in place.

Northern Terminus
Just beyond the Wilder Road interchange is the second and final CONNECTOR M-13 marker in the northbound direction.  M-13 is 1.5 miles away from this point.

0.5 mile north of the Wheeler Road overpass, CONN M-13 comes to an end at an intersection with M-13 in Kawkawlin.  From 1960 - 1968, when CONN M-13 was known as US 23, US 23 continued straight ahead through the intersection, while M-13 came to an end here.

In the southbound direction, CONN M-13 is signed as TO I-75 / US 23 instead of as CONNECTOR M-13.  This is to better guide motorists to the route's ultimate desitnation.
