Business Michigan Route 28 (Ishpeming / Negaunee)

Western Terminus: US 41 / M-28, Ishpeming, Marquette County. | Eastern Terminus: US 41 / M-28, Negaunee, Marquette County.

Western Terminus

The western terminus of BUS M-28 is at US 41 / M-28 northwest of downtown Ishpeming. There is no BUS M-28 ENDS signage in place at this end of business route. A pair of beautiful murals representative of the general vicinity adorn the abutments of the railroad overpass.

Historic Western Terminus (1958-1999)

From the birth of BUS M-28 in 1958 until 1999, BUS M-28 left downtown Ishpeming via Greenwood Street and North Lake Road before ending at US 41 / M-28 west of town. In 1999, this route was turned back to local control, and in exchange Lakeshore Drive was uploaded to MDOT. BUS M-28 was re-routed to follow Lakeshore Drive out of downtown Ishpeming to its current western terminus at US 41 / M-28 northwest of downtown. Here is the vintage BUS M-28 ENDS sign assembly that stood at the former western end of BUS M-28.

Eastern Terminus

The eastern terminus of BUS M-28 is also at US 41 / M-28, but this time north of downtown Negaunee. Again, a BUS M-28 ENDS sign is nowhere to be seen. Similar to the one in Ishpeming, the abutments of the overpass here each feature a mural depicting the Negaunee experience. The body of water behind the intersection is Teal Lake.

The first BUS M-28 marker in the westbound direction is situated in between the intersection with US 41 / M-28 and the railroad bridge.
