Background Information

The first eastern end photograph is of the actual END signage for the GA 38 / US 84 multiplex.  The second photograph is of the guide signage on I-95 at the exit where GA 38 / US 84 begins/ends.  There's visible evidence of the ongoing project to widen I-95 to three lanes in each direction throughout Georgia.  The third photograph shows the first reassurance shields on westbound GA 38 / US 84.

The first western end photograph was taken on US 84 eastbound after crossing the Chattahoochee River.  JP Nasiatka apologizes for the view, as love bugs were out that day.  If you’re not familiar with love bugs, JP says, “They are bugs that come out every spring and late summer to mate in southern Georgia, Alabama, and Florida.  They turn to acid as they hit the windshield.”  Georgia route 38 begins here at the state line.  The second photograph was taken looking westbound into Alabama and the Central Time Zone.  The third photograph shows a closer view of the welcome sign that greets drivers entering Georgia.  Of interest here is the fact that, unlike most other welcome signs, the governor’s name does not appear at the bottom of this one.  It's also interesting to note that US 84 is a 4-lane, divided highway on both sides of the border, but for approximately a mile and a half in the Chattahoochee floodplain, the road is only a 2-lane highway.
